THE STORY
Every year, four teams assemble in an abandoned bread factory on the south side of Chicago for a no holds barred, full on underground dodgeball tournament. Each team hails from different corners of the city and has their own unique set of members, including a metal band, a group of rich elitists, a rap group and a group of brothers that can't quite be described. As the story unravels, we slowly learn that this film is about much more than dodgeball.
THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY
This film was shot with a minimal 2 page outline of each dodgeball team and their back stories. However, when the cameras began to roll, several things changed. The product we have now is ten times better than what we could have ever imagined. Rather than try to force lines out of our actors, we welcomed improv, which has made this project what it is today. Even the tournament itself was completely unscripted. We showed up at a warehouse on the south side of Chicago and had a legitimate dodgeball tournament with four cameras rolling. Red Balls is proof that filmmakers don't need a huge budget to make a film, as long as you have the creativity and the drive to make it happen. So far, we have only spent about $200 dollars on this project.
